Miguel Gea: Status Page for applicant: Miguel Gea Milvaques

The race has begun

Miguel Gea: New developer process initiated...

I've contacted with myDMS upstream and he said me he is going to stop project ... :( I'm thinking about include it on Debian and be its upstream. It could be a hard work... It's a good project... I'll package first and think go include or not after that.

I've tried this weekend to init my process to be developer. I've contacted with my main sponsor to be my advocate. I think my work is good to Debian.

Miguel Gea: myDMS

I've discovered myDMS, an interesting Document Management System, I've installed on my system and tried it. It works so fine I've begun to use on my own documents.
I've decided tu package it to Debian.
I don't know why, but php packages seems not to be a good option in Debian. But I think this package is a very good option in Debian, I've looked for another DMS in Debian and there are not another good option.
I think I could find an sponsor for this package.

Miguel Gea: Bad day.

Last day was dreadful. My wife is ill, my twins and my son are ill. Yesterday one of them pull down the TV, vomit tree times on the floor, and fall down from the bed.

I had a crash on my laptop and all system was gone. I lost tree months work!!!!!. Definitively, It was'nt a good day.

Miguel Gea: Get back at work.

Holidays is going down... Tomorrow I must come back to work, and it's not my preference in this moment. I've been enjoying my wife and sons. I must think in work again. In this hollidays, I've did:

- Packaged pngwriter for Debian. Nice person Paul Blackburn, the upstream. I've added to my contacts on messenger.
- Packaged a new version for acx100 driver (0.2.0pre8+44-1).
- I'm translating a d-i document to catalan (long)
- I'm translating FET to catalan (long looong)
- I have been working in correct RC bugs in Debian (none corrected, one I found was a false bug, and the another one is not a package bug, it was a kernel bug!).
- I offered me as a co-maintainer for cdrtools.

I must to thank to my sponsor Aurelien Jarno for sponsor me for my new maintained package pngwriter.

Miguel Gea: Happy ...

Nice day, nice... eat, sing, and drink. Not too but enough!

Have a good day and God bless you and your family.

Miguel Gea: My firt time.

Uau!!!
It was marvelous, fant stic... I was up and down touching here and there... ufff... I was really nervous, impatient. I ask all I must do. Yes, I know I must no to ask and try myself. But, you can understand me. It's my first time I have a bug on a package! XD

Miguel Gea: Twins

Gooooood Morning!
Today I'm optimist. My one year twins today has been sleeping for 15 hours! (and me too, of course).

Yesterday, I uploaded my acx100 package to mentors.debian.net at 17:15 or so. I see this page and all is correct. at 22:15 I see the page, and It had been hacked! In that moment I send a message to Aur lian to say not to upload the package to debian. At the same moment I recived a message from him telling me the package has been uploaded. Shit! But the package hasn't been compromised.

Murphy is not infalible!

Miguel Gea: New acx100 release.

Good night.
Yes, good night, now my watch says its 3:33 ... All week I couldn't connect because telephone of my work was broken. When I have arrived at my home:

23:30 -> I connect to see if exists a new version for acx100 driver and YES! It is. I download it and work packaging it.
00:15 -> When I finished, I've uploaded to mentors and send a message to my sponsor for upload to debian. The acx100 version exists two days ago its 0.2.0pre8+41.
01:30 -> A new version for acx100 has been uploaded!. 0.2.0pre8+42. I have to repackage it and upload.

Anybody believes Murphy doesn't exist?

Miguel Gea: Catalan Translation Party I

Last year SoftCatala organize a party to get OpenOffice.org translated to Catalan and it seems works nice.
Then why not to use the same idea to translate the Debian Installer Manual?. Now we have our first Catalan Translation Party.

Miguel Gea: Experiences with oracle in Debian

I few months ago I decided to add support to Oracle database to dbconfig-common frontend. At that moment, I began learning how to install it and how to manage it.

My work:
1.- Download Software. My first surprise: Oracle -> 685M, Postgres -> 15,8M
2.- Read Manuals: A lot of them, with a high quality but... I can't find how to install in Debian. Google solves it: Desktop Survival Guide. Tricky but works!
3.- Manual database create/remove/test/dump...:
* create/dump: dbca is a graphical frontend than help to it; the --silent parameter let it works without graphical frontend.
* dump: exp works nice. The first test: to dump a complete void database (1 user, 1 table), takes 9 minutes and 12Mb!!!; Postgres -> 9 sec. and 200k for 100 tables/triggers.

I always hear than Oracle is the best database, but now I'm not to sure.

- The installation is too tricky.
- Create databases is slow (minutes)
- 9 minutes and 12mb to dump a complete void database? Slow!!!!!
- To work correctly you need to manually define 7 environment variables. No comments.
- It needs a big server. 500Mb Ram, 1Gb Swap, minimum.
- It's not possible to create a database remotely because it's necessary to create manually directories locally.

I was thinking about create debian packages for the new Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Beta Release , but It will be a lot of work. Maybe an alioth project?

About dbconfig-common... It will be probably finished this week, but it will need a lot of test/verify before release it.
